Welcome to our second post in the Virtual Mentor series!
I first met filmmaker and Webby Award-founder Tiffany Shlain at SxSW in Austin, TX where we shared a table at the Huffington Post’s Women’s Dinner. After seeing her feature documentary, Connected, I fell in love with Shalin’s signature filmmaking style of animation mashed up with archival footage. We became fast friends & supportive colleagues. After keeping in touch via social media we finally met up again, this time in New York, for a roof-top screening of her new project, Let It Ripple. The recently-launched series provides non-profits with free video content to tailor to their individual missions.
How do you stay creative?
Playing with my kids, always keep a journal with me to write down ideas and unplugging from all technology for 1 day every week. My family calls it our technology shabbats.
What are the two pieces of advice you wished someone told you at 25?
1. Getting older is fantastic for creativity. With experience, you see many more unusual connections.
2. Sunscreen. Always wear sunscreen!
